Dorn Voss needs to find it. But, the stakes are high and he isn’t the only one looking.

Natural wormholes are the sole means of intergalactic travel in the universe. Whoever controls them gains riches and power unimaginable. The coordinates of one such wormhole, the Mescalaro Gap, are lost, hidden behind conspiracy and murder. With a prize so great, many a man or alien would do anything to find those coordinates and control the universe.

In Where the Ships Die William C. Dietz creates a dense adventure filled with complex characters and multiple story lines all crashing headlong towards one final confrontation.

Dietz’s Mars Prime, thousands of colonists head towards Mars aboard the Outward Bound. But one person on the ship is different. Inside that crew member’s head, there are a half-dozen voices, a half-dozen personalities normally bickering and disagreeing. Today, though, just as the ship is about to leave Earth’s orbit, they all agree on one thing—they have to kill to keep their secret safe.

That’s dangerous for Rex Corvan, because secrets are the thing he was born to seek out. Rex is Earth’s greatest reporter. He’s equipped with a probing intelligence and a video camera for a right eye. Rex and his wife Kim are traveling on the Outward Bound to document its trip outward to the frontier of Mars.

The story of colonization quickly takes a backseat to this unknown, zero-gravity serial killer. As Rex and Kim find clues to the murderer’s identity in the ship’s A.I., they become targets themselves. Will the ship reach Mars before the many killers in one body reach them?

It’s not the video camera implanted in his right eye. It’s not his popularity with news audiences everywhere. What makes him a great reporter is his determination to run toward the story. With a killer on his tail, hopefully Rex can run fast enough.

With his video technician Kim, Rex unravels the mystery of Matrix Man, a dangerous program controlled by a secret group looking to subvert the government. They’ve already infiltrated the White House with deadly results. Now, they’re coming after Rex and Kim.

If Rex can break the story, it’ll be the scoop of a lifetime. As long as his lifetime lasts long enough to get it done….

If you love Matrix Man you’ll find many more wonderful William C. Dietz science fiction novels on his author page.

FBI Special Agent Christina Rossi had it all—for a while: a loving family, a career on an upward track, the works. Then a takedown of some eco-terrorists turned unexpectedly bloody, questions were asked and Rossi’s career hit the rocks. Now she doggedly pursues a slave labor case that might involve a Chinese mob.

Things become almost too good to be true after Jack Dexter, handsome, smart and well-off, brings hope and romance into her life – and connects her to some information on the dead-end case she won’t give up.

William C. Dietz introduces his third column:

My last two columns were focused on the ultimate source of most tie-in work: the film, television and gaming industries which typically create and produce the properties that novelizations and tie-ins are based on. Now it’s time to consider the publishers who purchase the rights and produce the actual books.
William C. Dietz introduces his second column:

Traditionally most tie-in novels have been based on movies and television programs. A quick check of the International Association of Media Tie-In Writers (IAMTW) website provides dozens of examples including Maverick, Murder She Wrote, James Bond, Batman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Trek, STAR WARS, Diagnosis Murder, Highlander and many more. But how do these deals get done? Who initiates them? And how are writers chosen?

In order to answer those questions and more I interviewed two experts and asked them a set of identical questions.

Over the course of these columns I plan to drill down on the business end of work-for-hire by examining the way gaming companies view tie-in novels, the way TV/Film companies approach them, and the important role publishers and agents play in the process. That includes why companies commission tie-ins, what they look for in writers, and how the selection process works.
